Pediatric

ALKAFLAM-P Suspension is a pediatric analgesic–antipyretic oral suspension from Rountalk Pharma that combines ibuprofen and paracetamol to relieve pain and reduce fever in children.

Brand and composition

  • Brand name: ALKAFLAM-P Suspension by Rountalk Pharma Pvt. Ltd., supplied in a 100 ml bottle.
  • Each 5 ml typically contains ibuprofen 100 mg and paracetamol 162.5 mg, a fixed-dose combination commonly used in pediatric suspensions for pain and fever.

Therapeutic uses

This combination is indicated for short-term relief of mild to moderate pain such as headache, toothache, earache, musculoskeletal pain, post‑immunization pain, and post‑operative discomfort in children.
It also helps in the symptomatic treatment of fever associated with viral or bacterial infections, where dual action provides stronger and longer antipyretic effect than either drug alone at equivalent doses.

How it works

Paracetamol acts mainly in the central nervous system to block prostaglandin synthesis, giving strong antipyretic and analgesic effect but minimal anti‑inflammatory action.
Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti‑inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclo‑oxygenase (COX) enzymes, decreasing prostaglandins responsible for pain, inflammation, and fever; together they offer additive pain relief and better temperature control.

Dosage and administration

  • Dose is calculated on the basis of child’s body weight and age; typical pediatric regimens use ibuprofen around 20–30 mg/kg/day and paracetamol about 50–60 mg/kg/day divided into 3–4 doses, not exceeding the maximum daily limits for each component.
  • Caregivers should shake the bottle well, measure the dose with a marked spoon or dispenser, and give it with or after food to reduce stomach upset, strictly following the prescribing doctor’s instructions and label directions.

Safety information and precautions

Common side effects of ibuprofen–paracetamol suspensions may include nausea, abdominal discomfort, mild dizziness, or skin rash; these are usually transient but require medical advice if persistent or severe.
The product should be used cautiously or avoided in children with known allergy to NSAIDs or paracetamol, active peptic ulcer, severe kidney or liver impairment, or in those already receiving other paracetamol/NSAID-containing medicines, to prevent overdose and organ toxicity.

Storage and patient guidance

The suspension is usually stored below about 25–30°C, protected from direct light and kept tightly closed; it should be discarded after the expiry date or a set period after opening as directed on the pack.
Parents should never exceed the recommended dose, should not use the medicine for more than a few days without medical review, and must consult a pediatrician immediately if fever persists, pain worsens, or any signs of allergy, jaundice, breathing difficulty, or blood in stools occur.
