ALKAFLAM-P Suspension is a pediatric analgesic–antipyretic oral suspension from Rountalk Pharma Pvt. Ltd. It combines ibuprofen and paracetamol to relieve pain and reduce fever in children.
Brand and Composition
- Brand name: ALKAFLAM-P Suspension by Rountalk Pharma Pvt. Ltd., supplied in a 100 ml bottle.
- Each 5 ml typically contains ibuprofen 100 mg and paracetamol 162.5 mg, a fixed-dose combination commonly used in pediatric suspensions for pain and fever.
Therapeutic Uses
This combination is indicated for short-term relief of mild to moderate pain such as headache, toothache, earache, musculoskeletal pain, post-immunization pain, and post-operative discomfort in children.
It also helps in the symptomatic treatment of fever associated with viral or bacterial infections, where the dual action provides stronger and longer-lasting fever control compared to either medicine used alone.
How It Works
Paracetamol acts mainly in the central nervous system to block prostaglandin production, providing effective pain relief and fever reduction with minimal anti-inflammatory action.
Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that reduces pain, inflammation, and fever by inhibiting enzymes responsible for prostaglandin synthesis. Together, both medicines provide enhanced pain relief and better temperature control.
Dosage and Administration
- The dose is calculated based on the child’s body weight and age. Typical pediatric dosing follows standard ibuprofen and paracetamol guidelines and should not exceed the recommended daily limits.
- Shake the bottle well before use. Measure the dose using a proper measuring spoon or dispenser and administer with or after food to reduce stomach discomfort.
- Use strictly as directed by the prescribing doctor.
Safety Information and Precautions
Common side effects may include nausea, abdominal discomfort, mild dizziness, or skin rash. These effects are usually temporary, but medical advice should be sought if symptoms persist or worsen.
This medicine should be used with caution or avoided in children with known allergy to NSAIDs or paracetamol, active stomach ulcers, severe kidney or liver disease, or in those already taking other medicines containing paracetamol or NSAIDs.
Storage and Patient Guidance
Store the suspension below 25–30°C, protected from direct light, and keep the bottle tightly closed. Do not use after the expiry date or beyond the recommended period after opening.
Parents and caregivers should never exceed the recommended dose or duration of use. Consult a pediatrician immediately if fever persists, pain increases, or symptoms such as allergy, yellowing of eyes or skin, breathing difficulty, or blood in stools occur.
